USE WHAT YOU HAVE CRANBERRY & GOLD MAKE UP TUTORIAL

A big shout out to my friend Judith this look is for you and I hope you like it. Oh and yes, at your insistence I have also composed a video to go along with this look here on my website and on YouTube VincentianLady https://youtu.be/aoTnoRze-0k for ease of reference. NB: PLEASE BE AWARE THERE IS NO VOLUME TO THE VIDEO AS IT IS A VISUAL AID TO SUPPLEMENT THIS BLOG I.E. TO DEMONSTRATE WHERE AND HOW I APPLIED MY MAKEUP TO ACHEIVE THIS LOOK.

Judith requested a makeup look that was not complicated to achieve and would complement her outfit for the forthcoming St. Vincent & Grenadines dance on 28th October. As a fellow Vincey I would love to be there, but reserved my ticket for Windrush for Silent Heroes Annual Charity Ball Black Tie Dinner & Dance which is also on the 28th October, a year ago. Judith be sure to take lots of photos.

Rustic Antique NYX Perfect Filter Palette

Let me say straight away that this look was a recreation/spin off of Chinutay's YouTube Fall Makeup NYX One Brand Tutorial. In that tutorial Chinutay is using the Rustic Antique NYX Perfect Filter Palette while I improvised using eyeshadows, foundation, mascara, lipstick etc. that I already own.

Following on from your positive feedback to my Workday Speedy Makeup Tutorial Blog & Video my aim was to simplify the process as much as I could, to condense the steps for those that don't normally wear makeup or don't want to wear too much makeup and apply in the shortest time with maximum results.

For ease of reference I refer to the shade from the palette that Chinutay used and the shades/brand I used to achieve the look together with details how to apply the product.

TIP: Don’t throw away those mascara wands that have become dried out the wands/brush are really good for brushing out your eyebrows and removing any excess powder or for removing excess mascara from your lashes if clumpy.

Makeup Swatches on back of my hand

Firstly I googled pictures of the palette so that I could clearly see what shades I had that would closely match those used from the NYX palette. It was not enough to source shades by using my eyes only. Once I sourced the closest shades I swatched them on the back of my hand so that I could see the colour payoff before placing the shadows on my eyes.

BLEND, BLEND, BLEND

Before applying any makeup in particular eyeshadow let me stress the keyword, BLEND BLEND BLEND and to this end always have a clean blending brush to hand. Remember the makeup artists on YouTube do often speed up their videos so that they are not too long or boring. Even with their vast experience they too will tell you blending is key and that this takes time. When you start applying makeup it may seem that your brain is overloaded with information. For me writing it down and seeing it in black and white minimised the amount of information my brain consumed. There are basic rules/preferences to applying makeup references to outer v, "cut crease, pack it on, windscreen wiper motions will all become second nature to you. Once you start having fun with makeup YOU WILL DECIDE what steps to omit or include in your makeup looks.

Foundation (3 in 1 Mixture) mixed together. My Quick Workday Makeup Tutorial details how to do this 3 in 1 = Moisturiser, Powder and Foundation and mix together. If you are really shiny in your T-Zone area or one of those women that duck whenever the lights come, worry not Wayne Goss Youtube Makeup Guru has just created a video saying that it is perfectly OK to omit the moisturiser and use e.g. the (2 in 1 Mixture) as set out below. Using a Brush/Beauty Blender – apply your 3 in 1 mixture to your face.

OR FOR REALLY OILY SKIN USE 2 IN 1 METHOD

Foundation (2 in 1 Mixture) = Foundation and Powder ONLY mixed together. Using a Brush/Beauty Blender – apply your 2 in 1 mixture to your face.

Concealer – Lighter Foundation or Concealer

Apply the concealer/lighter foundation in an upside down triangle under the eye area not going lower than nose to brighten under the eyes, add also above top lip, corners of mouth and chin. Use a moist Beauty Blender in a patting/dabbing motion to distribute the product. Use Ben Nye/Sasha Buttercup or Laura Mercia to set your foundation again dip the damp beauty blender into the powder and dab on the areas where there is concealer/lighter foundation to set it.

Eyelid Primer/Concealer

This step is well worth doing the pay off is fabulous. I videoed this look twice once without priming my eyelids and again without. Priming my eyelids won hands down. Use your ring finger (which warms the product) or a synthetic brush to apply. Spread the concealer/primer all over the lid and use powder or neutral eyeshadow to set and prep the Primer/concealer creating a smooth base to receive the eyeshadows.

Eyebrows

Brush out your eyebrows using a spooly. With a light hand use a tinted brow colour e.g. Maybelline Brow Drama in Deep Brown to brush through your brows and create a soft natural brow.

Transition Shade – Chinutay uses Row 2 Pan 2 - Yolanda used Flame ES30 from Morphe Brushes which is a burnt orange/brick shade.

Flame ES30 Morphe Brushes

Take a Large Fluffy Brush depositing most of the product on the outside corner of the crease area intensify the eyeshadow there using circular motions then washing the colour into the corner of the eye to blow it out and blend, blend blend

Crease Shade – Chinutay uses Row 1 Pan 2 - Yolanda used Rosewood ES59

Rosewood Morphe Brushes

from Morphe Brushes. Using a smaller blending brush - just below the orange (Flame) and focusing on the crease pack Rosewood on the outer V and then bring it in along the crease in windscreen wipe motions then use the cranberry to smoke out the bridge of the nose which will create a sultry look - Take a clean blending brush and beginning on the inner bridge of the nose blend it out removing any harsh lines between the Rosewood and the Orange .

Contour/Snatch Nose - Contour nose and/or snatch by using the Rosewood as continuation of Rosewood eyeshadow by bringing it down a third of the way down the side of nose.

Creme Brule Makeup Geek

Lid Shade Chinutay uses Row 1 Pan 3 - Yolanda uses Crème Brule from Makeup Geek Take Flat Shader Brush - Pack the neutral colour on as if creating a cut crease remember you primed your eye so the shadow colour payoff will be great.

Clean Blending Brush - Use a clean blending brush in windscreen wiper motions to blend out any harsh edges between lid colour Crème Brule and cranberry shade Rosewood and soften everything blend, look, blend, look, blend look until it is perfect.

OR

OPTION 2 Take the Flat shader brush and put some concealer on it and apply it to your lid and close up to your crease use your eyeball under the brush to guide you and define where you will be applying your gold pigment.

Eyelid Gold Pigment – Chinutay uses Row 1 Pan 4 - Yolanda used Barry M Dazzle Dust No.44 (Superdrugs) Flat Shader Brush – using the same Flat Shader Brush, spray the brush with Rose Water or any Makeup Setting

Barry M Dazzle Dust No.44 (Superdrugs)

Spray (I didn’t need to spray my brush using the Barry MDazzle Dust to pick up the pigment). Dip the brush into the pot of gold packing it onto the flat shader brush. Apply at the centre of the eyelid first bringing it into the inner corner of the lid. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET TOO CLOSE TO YOR CREASE BECAUSE WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR EYES THERE WILL BE TRANSFER ABOVE THE CREASE WHICH IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT. If it happens a clean blending brush will help to remove the excess gold pigment from your crease and you may experience fallout from the gold pigment on your cheeks but having mattified your face with powder after your concealer applying some powder to a soft fluffy brush should assist in simply brushing it away.

Eyebrows - Brush out your eyebrows using a spooly. With a light hand use a tinted brow colour e.g. Maybelline Brow Drama in Deep Brown to brush through your brows and create a soft natural brow.

L'Oreal Dual Eyeshadow Sculpted

Outer ► ShadeDeep Purple L'Oreal Dual Eyeshadow Sculpted or Black - Use a small detailed brush and create the outer ► to outer corner of eye and bringing in slightly in the crease just above the gold no more than half way in. This will really open up the eye. Use a clean blending brush, the one used before to blend out any harsh lines i.e. soften while defining.

Please note in the picture below my focus was on the eye makeup and how others would see you head on or when you lowered your eyelids. Apologies that MY EYEBROWS HAVE NOT been groomed in these photos as detailed in the makeup tutorial below.

Completed eyeshadow eyes open and closed

Concealer – Lighter Foundation or Concealer

Apply the concealer/lighter foundation in an upside down triangle under the eye area not going lower than nose to brighten under the eyes, add also above top lip, corners of mouth and chin. Use a moist Beauty Blender to in a patting/dabbing motion to distribute the product. Use Ben Nye/Sasha Buttercup or Laura Mercia to set your foundation again dip the damp beauty blender into the powder and dap on the areas where there is concealer/lighter foundation to set it.

Contour – Dark Cream or Foundation

Suck in your cheeks like a fish to delineate where to contour your cheeks and using your finger apply the dark cream/foundation, apply to temple and under bottom lip to create shadow and put some colour back into your face. Using a blush brush set that cream/foundation with dark powder contour e.g. Make-up Geek Deal Breaker or Barry M Flawless Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit (medium to dark tones for me) from Superdrugs.

Sleek Highlighting Palette Solstice

Blush - Apply a deep pink colour like MAC Raizin or Sleek Flushed Blush justabove your contour but below the high cheekbone highlighting area.

Highlighting/Strobbing - Use a Fan Brush and apply your highlight e.g. Sleek Highlighting Palette Solstice from Superdrugs to the highest point of your cheekbone, chin, cheek bone and under arch of eyebrow.

Under Lower Lash Line Eyeshadow 1 - Chinutay uses Row 1 Pan 2 - Yolanda uses Rosewood ES59 from Morphe Brushes. With a small pointed brush run the Rosewood shade immediately under the lash line. Link this shade up to the makeup at the outer corner of the upper eye.

Under Lower Lash Line Eyeshadow 2 - using the same small pointed brush as above (Chinutay uses Row 2 Pan 2 Yolanda uses Flame ES30 From Morphe Brushes) Go in with Flame/burnt orange and run it right under the Rosewood again bringing it out to meet the makeup on the corner of your eye.

Under Lower Lash Line Eyeshadow 3 - Deep Purple L'Oreal Dual Eyeshadow Sculpted and apply just below the lower lash line so that this looks like you have taken time to add eyeliner. Then using the brush used to apply Rosewood softly smoke out all the shades under the lower lash line.
